Natural Growth
A cold Industrial sculpture representing warm natural life and new growth
Nothing worth having in life comes easy or fast. This is especially true for this sculpture; what it means to myself, and Ryan Kelley could be considered a turning point in our perspectives as artists. This sculpture, which we have lovingly named “Natural Growth” is our first collaborative artwork. Ryan and I have teamed up to exploit both of our strengths and abilities to create a single sculpture that we are both incredibly proud and fond of.
About Ryan’s portion of this sculpture
Ryan is a Massachusetts based, self-taught sculptor who owns Wire by Ryan and has been in business for 10 years. The gorgeous copper wire tree is completely handmade and has over 5,000 leaves! He very carefully and precisely placed and shaped each root of the tree to grasp, cling and drip from the darkened steel hand. Every branch, leaf and detail were carefully and purposely positioned. Ryan has the ability to manipulate wire into the most intricate and beautiful bonsai trees. You can see more of Ryan’s extensive experience and beautiful wire trees at Wire by Ryan
About Kyle’s Portion of the sculpture
The hand that the tree seemingly and effortlessly grows from was made from solid 1/2” thick stainless steel bar stock. Weld on top of weld, slowly flesh was added to the lifeless steel to give the hand a dramatic pose and uneven, skin-like finish. The hand was then welded to a vintage piece of steel from the 1950s for a sense of character, history and elevation for the artwork. The lowest portion is a custom machined stainless steel base.
Planting New Growth for the Future
Ryan and I have decided to donate 10% of the proceeds from the sale of this sculpture in an effort to give back and focus on new growth. The donation will go to One Tree Planted where one tree will be planted for ever $1 given - That will be a total of 500 trees planted for the sale of this sculpture!
