Milgrain Ring
Every. Single. Dot.
Each one was created by hand using very old traditional techniques. Sure, this ring could be formed very quickly with modern tools but something is just missing from it with those tools. Using the beading tool, I have to firmly and evenly apply pressure to form a rounded bead one at a time along the entire edge of the ring.
Like all my silver work, it starts as 925 silver which I melt down, cast and form into wire. Once the ring is sized and shaped, I can cut a channel into the center of the ring before creating the milgrain.
The work this ring takes is long, focus-laden and intricate but the results are beautiful and create a shimmer and shine in person that cannot be appreciated by photos alone.
